God’s Abiding Love

“For He knows how weak we are;
 He remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass;
 like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone -
 as though we had never been here. But the love of the Lord remains forever
 with those who fear Him….” (Psalm 103:14-17 NLT)

Millions of tons of rock, equal in volume to two Empire State buildings, came crumbling down. A massive mountain breaking apart and crashing down.

The Eiger Mountain, a national landmark in Switzerland, stood for centuries – steadfast, constant, immovable. And yet in 2006 it became a startling example that not everything that seems so strong is stable and lasting.

“But the love of the Lord remains forever…” Jesus’ love is the only stable mountain we can be safe with. Never crumbling beneath our feet. His love exists and continues from eternity to eternity. Unshakable, unchanging, unending.

We may feel like His love will fade if we fail. Why would He want to remain with someone like me? Or when our world comes crashing down around us and within us, we may feel His love is shaking as well. Where is He when I need Him so much? But it’s not about what we feel. It’s about what His love is. So deep, so genuine, so abiding. A love that never ebbs and flows with the tide like ours does.

He has promised to be our constant refuge and strength. We need not fear even when mountains quake and crumble. We are forever safe in His abiding love.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (Psalm 46:1-3)

Reflection:

  1. Can you remember a time in your life when you felt like God’s love for you crumbled?
  2. According to Jeremiah 1:5, when did God first know you and set you apart?
  3. In Psalm 103:17, how long does God promise His love will be with us if we believe in Him?

    • You’re welcome, Liz. We need to daily remind ourselves of His love, or we would sink beneath the waves of trouble and negative voices that taunt us. I just read your today’s post. I’m so, so sorry for the pain you have gone through in your life. I’m proud of you for having the courage to talk about it and to offer hope to other hurting souls.
