We need Jesus. No doubt about it. But we don’t always “feel” Him. There may be times when troubles devastate our souls and we feel all alone in the dark. Where are You, Jesus?
I sometimes wonder… Does God wait to send us comfort because He wants us to learn to trust Him even in the dark? To trust more in His faithfulness to His promises? To trust He is watching over us even when we don’t feel it?
Recently I read this verse: “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27) A little positional word – IN – captured my attention. What? It is not beneath Him to dwell IN me? Wow! I think about Christ redeeming me, leading me, holding me, catching me, but how often do I think about Christ IN me? Sure, I probably read it umpteen times and even believed it, in my head. But this time the truth of it seeped into my heart.
Just think. If our old self has been crucified with Christ, if we have invited Christ to enter our hearts and lives, He is IN us. Waiting for us to tap into His power. His healing. His daily grace.
And Christ is not only IN us. He is WITH, BEFORE, BEHIND, UNDER, ABOVE, BESIDE us. He SURROUNDS us. He is EVERYWHERE PRESENT. I want to remember this on the days when I cry out – Jesus, where ARE You? I want to see You. I want to feel You. I want to know You are with me. I want to know You are leading me in the path of Your will, not mine.
In the dark nights of the soul,
I want to remember His promises,
Promises of His presence.
I want to believe He is here
Even when I can’t feel His peace.
I Am WITH you.
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
I Am BEFORE you.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8)
I Am BEHIND you.
“Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.” (Exodus 14: 19-20)
I Am UNDER you.
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27)
I Am IN you.
“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galations 2:20 NLT)
I Am ABOVE you.
“Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.” (Romans 8:34 NLT)
I Am BESIDE you.
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:13)
I SURROUND you.
“You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)
I Am EVERYWHERE.
“Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the Lord. “No, I am far away at the same time. Can anyone hide from Me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:23-24 NLT)
I wish you His peace on this Sabbath Day. Beautiful soul rest. Resting in His promises of His presence. There is no place and no situation where He is not present for us.
“Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.”
