ABCs of Jesus’ Love

love when God gave Jesus

There is no greater love than the love of Jesus.

Thanks to an online friend, Susie, who posted ABC Adoration, I was inspired to return to something I started quite some time ago. I hope your soul will be refreshed as mine was as I focused on the endless depth of Jesus’ love for us. As I worked on it, my drooping spirit lifted and my storm-tossed emotions quieted.

Please feel free to share in the comments another adjective to describe Jesus’ love and a Bible verse to go with it. There is no end to the ways He loves!

  1. Hi Trudy! This is a wonderful reflection tool for the Lenten Season. The love of God in the Father and the Son is so overwhelming, it’s difficult to understand it all. This list will help a lot.
I’m so glad it blessed you with peace. May His peace remain with you today and always.
    Blessings,
    Ceil

    • I’m so glad this list will help you, Ceil. Yes, that love is so overwhelming. It’s just too bottomless to understand, isn’t it? May His peace also be with you, my friend! May His love fill our hearts so full that it will naturally brim over to those around us! Hugs!

  2. That is such a great way to reflect on God’s love! Here are a couple that came to me:
Extravagant love- Ephesians 1:7-8: “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.”
Undeserved love- Romans 5:8: “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
    Thanks for sharing this!

  3. Ahh Trudy this is awesome– I would do A,B,C adoration prayers for a while but had forgotten. I will be stepping up my game again after being reminded by your lovely example! Uplifted already just by reading through yours : )

    • Thank you, Heather. I’m so glad these verses uplifted you. So what do you do when you pray ABC adoration prayers? Do you think of an attribute of God and thank Him for it? May God give us ever deeper adoration for all He has done for us! Hugs!

      • Yes- I would find a characteristic of him that matched up with each letter- kind of took the pressure off to have a little road map to follow in prayer : ) But was also creative in the moment depending on what adjective or attribute came to mind ♥

  4. Trudy,
What an extraordinary way to focus on one word and unwrap all the layers it can hold to speak to our hearts! You’re right that digging into the truths of God’s characteristics could be just the soul-enriching exercise that turns into an artful reflection to consider God’s great love for us. His words are just the treasure I need to experience him — love this! xoxo

    • Thank you, Valerie. I love this truth you pointed out – “His words are just the treasure I need to experience Him.” That’s so true, isn’t it? May He give us a deeper knowing experience into the treasures of His love for us! Hugs!

  5. I love this! What a beautiful way to outline how wonderful God’s love is and to have it especially for those days we feel unloved. I like “unfailing love” for U. Thank you for this list! Now we need a printable to print out and post somewhere at home! 🙂

    • Thank you, Mary. Unfailing love. Yes! Do you have a verse picked out to go with it? What a neat idea to make a printable out of it! I had thought of starting another page on this website with these, but maybe I should also work on a printable, too. You have me thinking… 🙂 May Jesus’s unfailing love guide us continually! Hugs!

  6. What a powerful post to reflect on. Thank you, Trudy! Will post link on FB! One of my FB friends posted a meme today with Jesus telling Peter with hand outstretched: “Come”. So this brings to mind the Inviting Love of our Lord.
(Revelation 3:20) ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.

  8. Trudy, I love this! Such a great idea… I am rejoicing that nothing can keep us from His Unlimited Love: For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 AMP. Happy Valentine’s Day!

  9. Wow, what a wonderful reminder of the vastness of God’s love for us! Trudy, you have truly given us a rich treasure house to feast on here. I need to print this out if possible, but have bookmarked it for now so that I can return and be refreshed once more by the wonder and full implications of these words. I love the way you have chosen to express this biblically and personally. I sense that the ‘grace-filled, healing and inviting’ aspects are speaking to me today. Although there is so much more to reflect on and be grateful for. Bless you for placing the emphasis on where love originates and flows from. It has lifted this woman’s weary heart and been a beautiful way of focussing on my word for the year. Hugs and gratitude to you! Xx ❤

    • Oh, Joy, I am so blessed to know these verses have lifted your weary heart, too. It was really good for my spirit to search for verses that verify all the ways God loves us. And yes, to remember where love originates and flows from. Without this love we cannot survive, can we? May we together cling to His precious grace-filled, healing, and inviting love! Hugs to you, too!

I love how you’ve organized all these beautiful verses, and I was especially impressed at how you found words for the “hard” letters. 😉 As you say, there truly is no greater love than the love of Jesus! Love and blessings to you, my friend!

  13. Tenacious! Yes! In His love He holds onto us and pursues us even when we go astray.
I love this list, Trudy! Thanks for sharing this!
Some of those verses could be used for more than letter because they have more than one adjective. Of course, there’s no point listing them 3 times, but we have 3 times more reason to rejoice at His amazing love!
How about Patient Love, Kind Love, Enduring Love, Hopeful Love from 1 Corinthians 13:4,5,7? This love is God’s love; we cannot perfect this love, and cannot even begin to have this love without the filling of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Praise God for His wonderful love!

    • Thank you, Ruth. I’m so glad these verses encourage your heart. I love His tenacious love, don’t you? I’ve been wondering if I should list a verse under several adjectives. Like you say though, there is all the more reason to rejoice at His amazing love. 🙂 I will have to ponder and pray some more about this. Thanks so much for your 1 Corinthians 13 suggestion. I’ll add it for this month’s New This Month which should come out next week. I’ll try to decide which adjective to use or if I’ll use more than one. Hugs!
