After the Winter, God Sends the Spring
by Helen Steiner Rice
Springtime is a season
Of hope and joy and cheer.
There’s beauty all around us
To see and touch and hear.
So, no matter how downhearted
And discouraged we may be,
New hope is born when we behold
Leaves on a budding tree,
Or when we see a timid flower
Push through the frozen sod
And open wide in glad surprise
Its petaled eyes to God,
For this is just God saying,
“Lift up your eyes to Me,
And the bleakness of your spirit,
Like the budding Springtime tree,
Will lose its wintry darkness
And your heavy heart will sing” –
For God never sends the Winter
Without the joy of Spring.
“Spring Is Here Song”
Don’t you just love it?!
I hope this puts a smile in your heart!
“God never sends the Winter without the joy of Spring.” What a great thought, Trudy. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face this morning. (I loved watching that little deer stand up in the song video.) Happy Spring to you, my friend!

Happy Spring to you, too, Lois! It is finally feeling more like it here. π Hurray! I love all the new life in Spring. That thought that God never sends the Winter without the joy of Spring encourages me as well. May our hearts be filled with gratitude to our Faithful God!

Oh, that video truly made me smile, Trudy! I am partial to squirrels, as one is a main character in my novels, so you have to know I was immediately enamored. π
I’m so thankful that God sends us spring after the winter, a promise of rebirth and renewal.
Blessings to you on this fine spring day!

Dear Trudy,
Oh THANK YOU for bringing such a smiling-moment to my afternoon! What fun to watch those little “critters” calling out the spring. Especially the goofy-voiced-one hurrying to add at the end, “that was even better than last year!” π And, I am always touched by any poem from Helen Steiner Rice. She was a favorite of both my Mom and my Grandma, so you have brought great joy to me today, Dear Sister! xoxo

I’m happy to know you were blessed with smiling moments, Bettie. Did you catch it at the end before that voice saying it was even better? “Thank God, everybody!” I didn’t catch it until the second time I listened to it. Helen has such beautiful poems. This one said what I wanted to say better than I could. π Winter can get discouraging for me as I get sick more often than when it’s warmer. Spring truly does bring new hope! I know it does to you as well! xoxo back to you! May God add many smiles to our hearts as we reflect on His great goodness and love!

Oh my gosh, that video is so funny! We are having sleet, snow and slush conditions on this ‘spring’ day so your video reminds me to still be hopeful. It will be spring like again! I absolutely love the poem you shared. No matter the season, God is always with us.

Oh dear, I’m sorry you’re having sleet and snow, Lynn! I would be discouraged, too. I’m glad the video and poem helped you to be more hopeful. Yes, no matter the season, God is always with us. Thank you for that encouraging reminder. May we always remember He is faithful, no matter what circumstances we are in!

Helen Steiner Rice has the best poetry. I haven’t read this poem before, and I loved the images and truths in it. We have spring here, at least today we did. It’s always a day-to-day weather adventure in Colorado during this time of year. π There is hope that comes with new growth. π
And my youngest son and I enjoyed the video. My favorite was the baby bird singing opera. π Have a great week, my sweet friend!

I’m glad Helen’s poem warmed your heart, Jeanne. I love her poetry, too. I think we are finally getting spring weather here, although it’s only in the 40s here today. It’s a rainy day, and I just heard thunder. I didn’t know Colorado weather was a day-to-day adventure. π Yes, there is hope with new growth! I’m so glad you and your son enjoyed the video. Yes, that little bird was quite the singer. π You have a great week as well, my friend! May we rest in the truth that God is with us always, no matter what weather we’re in, whether it’s outside or in our hearts!

Hi Trudy,
It’s so true that something about spring, fresh air and new blooms on the trees and flowers works wonders to inspire new hope in us for the days ahead. I think spring draws us closer to God as we enjoy his unique creatures and celebrate all that he created for our pleasure and enjoyment! I’m so grateful for that — and YOU! xo

The song at the end made me smile and laugh. So cute. The poem speaks of exactly how I feel when new life begins to peek out of hiding and bring its beauty with it. God sure is good to bring us beauty in every season.

Hi Trudy! Happy Spring to you! Sometimes a break in the weather just lifts my soul and makes me so much happier. I was out walking this morning before the rain came, just praising God for the warmer temps and the flowers πΊ. There is so much beauty in the world, and this change of seasons really underlines it all.

The video definitely made me smile, Trudy! I loved the bird singing and the frog at the end. Spring is probably my favourite season. After the winter the warmth and the longer days always give me hope. I love that verse from Song of Solomon too!

Iβm so glad the video made you smile, Lesley. Spring is my favorite season, too. Watching the birds return and seeing all the signs of new life revive my fainting spirit. That Song of Solomon gives so much hope, doesnβt it? God is faithful to bring us a season of singing after a season of coldness. May our hearts find hope in Him who has all the seasons of our lives in His hands and who will never abandon us through any of them!

I’m so glad this brought cheerful smiles and hope to your winter-weary heart, Joy. I know this winter has been especially long for you with all the things that have gone on. I hope your husband is still improving and you are getting more rest. I’m sorry I’m kind of slow in getting to your posts. I think I have two of them yet in my email. Sometimes it’s so hard to get to every email. I know you understand though, so thank you for that. Love and hugs and xo to you, too! May the spring-time rain of Jesus’ love refresh our hearts!

Happy Spring to you, too, June! I love it! The weathermen are predicting a rainy, chilly week here, but we need the rain, too. I do love the fresh smell it brings and the life it gives to nature. π I was just thinking how when the clouds cover the brightness of the sun, it may not be as warm, but the sun is still there giving us light. May we cling to the Truth that God is always with us, rain or shine!
