God Has Not Promised

holding hand

No Matter What You Face in 2013,

Hold Onto God’s Unchanging Hand!

Whether you have entered this year cloaked in mourning or dancing with joy, I wish each and every one of you God’s rich blessings of love, peace, and joy in 2013. May Jesus hold your hand and lead you forward and carry you in His everlasting arms of love when you can’t go any further!

I’d like to share a poem/hymn that is sometimes a comfort for me. I hope it will lift you up as well as you face this new year.

God Hath Not Promised

God hath not promised skies always blue

Flower strewn pathways, all our lives through;

God hath not promised sun without rain,

Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

But God hath promised strength for the day,

Rest for the labour, light for the way,

Grace for the trials, help from above,

Unfailing kindness, undying love.

God hath not promised we shall not know

Toil and temptations, trouble and woe;

He hath not told us we shall not bear

Many a burden, many a care.

But God hath promised strength for the day,

Rest for the labour, light for the way,

Grace for the trials, help from above,

Unfailing kindness, undying love.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,

Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;

Never a mountain, rocky and steep,

Never a river turbid and deep.

But God hath promised strength for the day,

Rest for the labour, light for the way,

Grace for the trials, help from above,

Unfailing kindness, undying love.

None of us knows what this year will bring, but we do know that God promises the same thing He once promised to Moses in Exodus 33, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Some day we will forever enter into that eternal rest with Jesus where sorrow and sighing will not exist. But meanwhile, let’s cling to God’s promise to be with us and plead with Moses, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” May the God Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever be with us and in us in this coming year!
