ABCs of Jesus’ Love

Visit this page anytime and let me know if you’d like to add to the words describing Jesus’ love along with a verse supporting it. Remember, there is also a print-out of the original list.

This month I have added an “S” Word:

❤  Shepherding Love
He tends His flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in His arms
and carries them close to His heart;
He gently leads those that have young.

Isaiah 40:11

Books

I am not always able to keep up with the abundance of books that promote hope, healing, and freedom, so I haven’t always read every one I post here and on the Books Page. Though many are on my long wish list. 🙂  Many will be from recommendations of online friends. If you ever know of a book that is not listed and that supports this website’s mission, please let me know. 🙂

Dear Jesus: Seeking His Light in Your Life by Sarah Young

“From your heart’s deepest cry to life’s joyful praises, nothing is off limits to Jesus.
Knowing Jesus on a deeper, more personal level means sharing all aspects of your life with Him…every day. In Dear Jesus, Sarah Young exemplifies what it means to do this-to dialogue with the Savior. She begins each of the 120 devotionals by sharing intimate struggles and longings that weigh on the heart-being preoccupied with problems; being dissatisfied with oneself, and other spiritual issues. Jesus then responds in His loving way by giving guidance and encouragement, using Scripture as the foundation from which His words flow. Readers will be drawn into the presence of God through these spiritual letters of grace.” (Amazon Review)

Hope Harbor

💞  Links That Inspire Hope and Healing 💞

💞 You Don’t Have to Understand God – “When we don’t understand something about God, some people are tempted to discredit him completely. My friend Andy Stanley said, ‘You don’t have to understand everything to believe in something.’ In John 9, Jesus met a man who was born blind and forced to beg just to get by. Jesus’ disciples wanted to know whose fault it was that the man was blind: Was it his fault? Or his parents?…”

💞 Hurt, Hope, and Making It Through Life’s Hard Times – Holley Gerth reminds us that hurt and hope are a part of every hard experience. Hurt and hope both need to be felt, not ignored.

💞 Hope Verses – Hope verses Bill from “Unshakable Hope” has put together. Suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, Bill has learned that hope is one of the things that cannot be shaken.

Nature Retreat

“In every walk with nature
one receives far more than he seeks.”
~ John Muir

More photos from my brother in Arizona. 🙂 John took a two-hour hike along a river in search of the elegant trogon he was told was in the area. He was finally rewarded. Isn’t this bird beautiful?! The other photos are of a leaf-footed cactus bug, a rattlesnake, and a wolf spider.

🐾 Kevin Barry Photography – Galleries of splendid nature photos of landscapes, insects, mammals, reptiles, birds, alligators, and more.

🐾 Kinnara Bosworth Portfolio – This photographer travels to see and photograph natural wonders from all parts of the globe to share with the rest of the world. There are fantastic photos from different countries.

🐾 HD Nature Photos: Stunning Royalty-Free Landscape Images – Breath-taking photos of landscapes and wildlife including serene pictures of trees, lakes, plants, flowers, outdoor animals, seascapes and more.

Quotes

New quotes this month are about Faith.

❤ “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” – Corrie ten Boom

“Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. It is the belief that God will do what is right.” – Max Lucado

“Faith is the bird that sings when the dawn is still dark.” ~Rabindranath Tagore

  1. ‘Dear Jesus’ is on my nightstand, too, Trudy! And ‘Jesus Lives’ is on the trunk in my living room, newly borrowed from the church library.

I so appreciate Sarah’s words, her journaling, the Scripture she shares. I’ve been greatly encouraged along the way … and my clients have been, too, as I’ve shared her words with those going through painful seasons.

    Good stuff.

    1. I really appreciate Sarah’s words, too, Linda. And I like that this book has the Scripture verses written out. You were the one that pointed me to this book. 🙂 So thank you. I also have Jesus Calling and Jesus Today, but I think I like this one best so far. I love how she journals her prayer and then goes on to write what Jesus would say, based on Scripture. I can see how this book would encourage your clients who are going through painful seasons. May our first response in every situation be to cry out to Jesus who cares so much!

  2. What beauty! Thank you for sharing those stunning pictures from your brother. I especially love the birds. Dear Jesus is a beautiful devotional. I’m so glad you have it nearby. And any quote from Corrie ten Boom speaks to me.

As we move into May, I pray we find many more snapshots of beauty through words, books, photos and each other.

    1. Thank you, Mary. My brother certainly does take stunning photos. I especially love the birds, too. Their beautiful colors brighten my spirits. 🙂 I love your prayer at the end. Yes, there are snapshots of beauty everywhere, aren’t there? I look forward to when I can take my camera out into nature again. Like Corrie, may we trust our unknown futures to our known God!

    1. I love the Max Lucado quote and the song, too, Lois. God will always do the right thing for us and keep us forever safe, right? Yes, that bird is so beautiful. It’s the first time I saw one like that. There’s a story behind that spider. My brother has a sense of humor and he knows how gullible I am. When he texted me the photo, he told me how big it was and that it ate the neighbor’s dog. When I responded that I wasn’t going to fall for this one, he said it was a small dog. But I still didn’t fall for it! 🙂 My family has had some laughs because I have believed things that are so unlikely. I don’t think I’m quite as gullible now, but they still catch me sometimes. 🙂 Happy May sprinkled with love and hugs to you, too! May we surrender our wants into God’s hands and trust He will always do what is right!

  6. Thanks for introducing me to another new song, Trudy! I love the photos of the bird too, and the Max Lucado quote is great. It’s so important to put our faith in who God is rather than in getting the outcome we want. Love and hugs to you!

    1. There are so many meaningful, encouraging songs, aren’t there, Lesley? I always love finding new ones. I love how you word that about putting our faith in who God is rather than in getting the outcome we want. May we ever more deeply trust in His perfect plan for us! Love and hugs to you, too!

  7. Awww, Trudy. There’s so much goodness in this post. I really loved the birds, and this quote:

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” – Corrie ten Boom”

I’ve thought about this quote a lot lately. I’m so glad that our Father knows our future. What comfort!

Thanks for these encouragements today, may friend!

    1. Thank you, Jeanne. I’m grateful you were encouraged. 🙂 I, too, find comfort in the truth that our Father knows our future. Sometimes we want so much to know or even to control our future though, don’t we? May we fix our eyes on Jesus and surrender our future into the hands of our loving Father who knows what is best for us and has perfect timing!

    1. Thank you, Lynn. Yes, he loved finding them. I’m so glad for him that now that he is retired, he can have more time doing what he loves. 🙂 I’m so glad you were encouraged here. I pray your writing project is going well and your blogging break is rejuvenating your spirits. I think you were going to travel somewhere south? May God give us strength and hope for each day!

  8. Trudy, your monthly roundups offer such a feast for the soul! I love Sarah Young’s books and greatly appreciated the reminder of Dear Jesus, which I began reading at the start of the year on my Kindle and somehow lost it among the many I have downloaded since. Now it has been rescued, phew! I’m also in awe at the skill and talent your brother has as a nature photographer and the wonderful images he has captured here. What a marvellous bird that is and how scary the spider looks! 🙂 Your faith quotes touched me deeply as I spotted old favourites that mean so much to me. And I enjoyed popping over to read those posts you have highlighted. I’m saving the song to savour later. Thank you for serving up such an excellent selection once again! Love and hugs to you, dear friend! xo ❤

    1. Yes, that bird truly is beautiful, June. I’ll admit he is more beautiful than the other creatures, but to be honest, they fascinate me, too. 🙂 I’m always amazed at how uniquely God created each creature. Not that I’d want them in my house though. 🙂 Blessings to your week! May we surrender our way and may God guide us in His way!
