The following poem is on the backside of this photo:
In His Hands
The Hands that made the world
And gave the sun and moon their light
Are the tiny Hands of a baby
Born one cold December night.The Hands that still the wind
And tame the fury of the sea
Are the calloused Hands of a carpenter
Who lived in poverty.The Hands that held the power
To break the binding chains of sin
Are the gentle Hands that washed the feet
Of tired and dusty men.The Hands that cleansed the leper,
Healed the blind, and raised the dead
Are the praying Hands of one who cried,
“Not My will, but Thine instead.”The Hands that shaped the universe
And flung the stars in space
Are the nail-pierced Hands of a dying man
Who suffered in our place.The Hands of our Creator,
Lord and King of Heaven above,
Are the Savior’s Hands,
Forever reaching out to us with love.B. J. Hoff
When I searched for Bible verses about God’s hand(s), I was surprised at how many there are. I haven’t begun to find them all and I definitely can’t name them all here, so I’ll just share a few.
“My own hand founded the earth,
and My right hand spread out the heavens;
when I summoned them,
they stood up together.”
Isaiah 48:13 HCSB
“The life of every living thing is in His hand,
as well as the breath of all mankind.”
Job 12:10 HCSB
“Riches and honor come from You,
and You are the ruler of everything.
Power and might are in Your hand,
and it is in Your hand to make great
and to give strength to all.”
1 Chronicles 29:12 HCSB
“Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding
so that I can learn Your commands.”
Psalm 119:73 HCSB
“For the Lord your God dried up the waters
of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over,
just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea,
which He dried up before us until we had crossed over.
This is so that all the people of the earth may know
that the Lord’s hand is mighty,
and so that you may always fear
the Lord your God.”
Joshua 4:24 HCSB
“My enemies surround Me like a pack of dogs;
an evil gang closes in on Me.
They have pierced My hands and feet.”
Psalm 22:16 NLT
“See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands;
your walls are ever before Me.”
Isaiah 49:16 NIV
“Sing a new song to the Lord,
for He has done wonderful deeds.
His right hand has won a mighty victory;
His holy arm has shown His saving power!
Psalm 98:1 NLT
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Your Hands
by JJ Heller
“When my world is shaking, heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave Your hands…”
This is so so beautiful, Trudy. That song, the art work, the poem, all those Scriptures. Thank you for reminding me of the beautiful drawing a nun once gave to me. After almost two years in her class (she was my teacher at elementary school in Germany), we were returning to New Zealand and we had to say goodbye. On the front page of the heart booklet filled with sweet messages from my classmates were hands folded around a little girl and a poem speaking of God holding us in His hands. I now look back and see God prophecying over me – that through the more than twenty years of my Prodigal journey I remained in His safe hands. Tears. God is so good to us. His love just so incredible.

I’m so glad, Anna. What a precious gift that teacher gave you! It’s always good to be reminded of God’s past mercies, isn’t it? When I look back, too, I have to say, “Ebenezer! Thus far the Lord has helped us!” We can’t always see that, but step by step the Lord leads us deeper into His faithful character, doesn’t He? Yes, His love is so incredible! May we cling to His precious promise that He has us graven on the palms of His hands!

That’s so sweet, Lynn. Thank you! I pray the same for you! When I was searching for verses concerning God’s hands, my heart was overwhelmed with His faithful love and care for us. May our hearts always remember He holds us in His loving hands, even on those days when it doesn’t feel like it!

Dear Trudy,
Oh what a beautiful collection you have shared here! I am going to be re-reading over these tonight. And I am so very thankful that the Lord put this on your heart, especially as I had just been thinking about your post “hands” from two years ago, and what a blessing that was during my husband’s hand surgery. I am so amazed at God’s timing. Thank you for being open to His nudges Dear Friend! Blessings, love, and hugs to you. xoxo

Yes, God’s timing is so amazing. When I read your reply to my comment about thinking of a former post, I felt so grateful and I knew today’s post would also bless you. I was and am awed with how God nudges us. Sometimes I think of writing something else, but it doesn’t feel quite right, and I keep on praying. Sometimes even while writing, He nudges me to delete and write something else. God is so faithful. He cares for us so deeply and knows exactly what we need when we need it. Blessings, love, and hugs to you, too! May we daily remember that Jesus’ pierced hands are always reaching out to us in love!

Love this Trudy. I have been contemplating on the theme of humility and how it undergirds what Christmas is all about. That poem so describes how Jesus humbled Himself in every way. I love your tender way of sharing. It always reaches me. Have a Blessed Christmas, my friend, encircled in the palm of His Hand.❤️

Thank you for your kind words, Sita. I’m so grateful this sharing reaches your heart. Yes, humility truly does undergird what Christmas is all about. It is just unfathomable that the Almighty hands who created this world and can do anything are the same needy hands of a baby born in the manger to bring us hope. It humbles me that He would do that much for us out of love for us! May our lives reflect the love and humility of our Savior!

Oh what a beautiful post! I love the poem, collection of inspiring Bible verses and song! Thank you, Trudy, for reminding us just who is holding us close and the comfort we have in remembering He does. These lines from the poem are especially poignant:
“The Hands of our Creator,
Lord and King of Heaven above,
Are the Savior’s Hands,
Forever reaching out to us with love.”
The word “forever” really stood out to me, speaking of our eternal link with God and His forever love. May we rest in that wonderful reassurance during days when we feel restless, times when troubles hit and hope seems to be distant. Bless you, my friend, for always giving me a lift and reason to hope when I read your lovely heartfelt posts. Love and hugs! xox ❤

Trudy, that’s a beautiful picture and poem. It’s amazing how often “hands” come up in the Bible. I didn’t think about it until I started reading your verses here today. I’m so glad God holds us in the palm of His hand. Isaiah 41:10 is a verse I come too often. There’s such comfort and truth in it. Thank you for directing my thoughts on this path. I’m going to ponder Jesus’ hands through the rest of this day.
Sending you love and hugs, my friend!

I’m glad your heart is comforted and your thoughts are directed to ponder Jesus’ hands. Love and hugs to you, too! May we cling to the Truth that He holds us up with His victorious right hand!

Trudy, wonderful collection of pictures, verses and poems! I didn’t realize there were so many scriptures about His hands, either. I did know the one about having us engraved on His palms, which I find incredibly comforting!

Thank you, Jerralea. Isn’t it something how there are always more treasures to find in God’s Word? The verse of being engraved on His palms is an especially meaningful one to me, discovered during a time when I was in deep despair. Yes, it is incredibly comforting! May we daily remember He’s got us and will never forget us!

Beautiful! I love the image of hands and notice people’s hands before almost anything else. There is expression, strength, and love in hands and our Father exemplifies this beautifully.

Thank you, Mary. Yes, our Father’s hands exemplify love and strength perfectly. I have bad memories of people’s hands hurting. I’m so grateful God is love! May we always use our hands to love and never to hurt all those around us!

I’m so grateful you are encouraged by them, Dolly. It’s incomprehensible that the same hands who created this world and all that’s in it came to be born as a vulnerable baby because He loves us so, isn’t it? Many blessings, love, and hugs to you, too! May we always flee for refuge to our Savior’s loving hands, and may He heal us ever deeper!
