Advent Hope Breathers

Advent – A Season of Anticipation

We wait, we watch, we hope:

⭐️ As we celebrate the Lord Jesus’ humble birth on this earth because He loves us so deeply

⭐️ For our hearts to open wide to receive the Tidings of Great Joy, either for the first time or by renewal

⭐️ In eager expectation for the second coming of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ

“And the Word became flesh,
and dwelt among us,
and we saw His glory,
glory as of the only begotten from the Father,
full of grace and truth.”

John 1:14

Advent Quotes

“The Lord is coming, always coming. When you have ears to hear and eyes to see, you will recognize him at any moment of your life. Life is Advent; life is recognizing the coming of the Lord.” ~ Henri Nouwen

“A prison cell, in which one waits, hopes – and is completely dependent on the fact that the door of freedom has to be opened from the outside, is not a bad picture of Advent.” ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“You could more easily catch a hurricane in a shrimp net that you can understand the wild, relentless, passionate, uncompromising, pursuing love of God made present in the manger.” ~ Brennan Manning

“Let’s approach Christmas with an expectant hush,
rather than a last-minute rush.”

The heavens declare the glory of God;

Some beautiful sunset photos one of our granddaughters took. 🙂
I love watching the sunrises from our bedroom window. It’s amazing how not one scene is the same and it can change so quickly.
God Is With Us!
One of our sons was at a home ministry conference and someone driving past took this photo. Can you see the cross?

  1. Trudy, your words, images and quotes have so uplifted me today. I’ve printed out the Bible scripture Advent calendar for my grandchildren, and will mail that to them tomorrow. It will make a great addition to the permanent cloth Advent calendar I purchased for them last year.
Also, if it’s okay with you, I’d like the option to share the quote from Henry Nouwen in a future blog. Let me know, please, my friend, as I’m looking to write a post about Advent.
May this season of waiting with anticipation for the greatest gift ever given to this world be one of joy and peace for you!
    Blessings!

    1. I’m so glad you were uplifted, Martha. You don’t really need my permission to use the quote, my friend. 🙂 I found while searching for Advent quotes and anyone may pass it on as long as the author gets the credit. 🙂 I love how he puts it about our whole life being Advent. So true, isn’t it? Thank you so much for the beautiful blessing! I pray the same for you!

    1. Yes, that cross in the sky still awes me, Lynn. I have never seen anything like it before. It gives hope that God is still with us and is still in control, doesn’t it? May we together celebrate the coming down of our Lord to us and look for His second coming with joyful expectation!

  4. Trudy, what an encouraging post. Reminders about hope are so needed, especially during this time of year. The quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer stopped me and made me read again. So much truth there! And I loved the photos shared. The sunset ones made me smile because of their beauty. Sending love and blessings to you, friend!

  6. Trudy, those quotes are POWERFUL! “I Heard the Bells …” by Casting Crowns is one of my favorite Christmas songs. And you won’t be surprised to know I love those sunset photos your granddaughter captured … so beautiful. Reading this has been a lovely way to start of the Advent season. Hugs, dear friend.

    1. I always love “I Heard the Bells,” too, Lois. It’s so comforting that in Jesus there is peace on earth though “hate is strong and mocks the song.” God is not dead nor doth He sleep! And yes, it doesn’t surprise me that you love those sunset photos. 🙂 Hugs to you, too! May the hope and peace our Savior brings fill our hearts!

I haven’t “known” you as long as I have Bettie, but I am thankful I “met” you, too! May God send His grace-giving balm to calm our hearts in the midst of all the storms of life!
